From there, it was all easy. He graded, added the underground electrical wiring, added gravel bedding around the golf holes, made his wooden molds for the lanes, and poured the concrete. He built the special effects, such as ramps and windmills, and hooked up the electrical boxes, motors, and lights. He then put down the AstroTurf on the putting lanes and used his painting skills to decorate all the wooden structures for each hole. It was night when he got all the work finished. He turned the power on and, just as he expected, all the multi-colored lights and motorized contraptions came alive, turning his course into a miniatureecarnival.. When he was finished, he was quite proud of himself.



His friends were equally impressed, as they gathered in groups of four to work their way around, playing miniature golf. Sue and Danielle, and Pete and Mike were in one group. Four other groups consisted of all women and all men. There were refreshments of chips and appetizers, along with soda and fruit juice, stationed along the course. At the New Amsterdam hole, a fake windmill rotated it's vanes quickly, trying to hit the balls as they rolled underneath. At the whoop-de-doo hole, the balls had to be hit hard enough with the golf clubs to follow the course on an upside down journey, before they came out at the end, near the hole. There were many interesting clever designs that Ted had either copied or thought up.



The friends played all 18 holes that evening. Pete had the lowest score out of everyone. He said it was the way he held the putting club that made the difference. Everyone else said that it was because he was on the high school golf team and got a lot of practice. The brightly colored balls in orange, green, blue yellow, and red, spent the entire evening bouncing off rubber bumpers, slicing though narrow shoots, and dodging moving contraptions. Pete decided to be a gentleman and disqualify himself, putting Sue in first place. The first place prize that Ted had arranged was a night of free miniature golf, and they agreed they would meet back at Ted's next week for more of the same fun, playing backyard miniature golf, again
