Backyard Miniature Golf



With his own backyard miniature golf course, Ted and his friends had something to do every night of the week. Last week, Ted had wanted to be a dancer. The week before, he wanted to be a surveyor. This week, he wanted to be a golf pro, so he had set up a miniature course in his back yard, and invited all of his friends to play. He had all 18 holes, which could be played in a lot less time than it took to tee off and play all the holes at a regular course. He'd worked really hard on this project, and it wasn't easy. But as he watched his friends laughing and playing, he felt that the results had been worth all the effort he had put into building it.

Ted started from scratch, and got his ideas online and at the local miniature course. The next step was to design the layout of the course, with a description of special effects for each hole. Then, he could draw the layout of the electrical system for lights and motors, and breakers. He began gathering up special construction materials, like old barrels of different sizes, manikins, plenty of green short nip outdoor carpet, as well as green felt, and he found some wide steel cups with narrow slots in the bottom, to set as holes. Gathering all this took about two weeks, and he was able to do it after work and on the weekends.

Ted took a couple of weeks off of work and began construction in the wee hours of the night. He had all the tools, including hammers, saws, T-squares, levels, a hand drill with a variety of different size drills, a shovel and wheelbarrow, paint and brushes, and everything else he needed. He first staked the ground to mark out the holes with putting lanes for the golfers. Then he installed a drainage system that would carry all water by PVC pipe to a distant drain outlet. He made sure everything was above ground level, too, so that there would be no problem with standing water.
